We've paired some miniature upholstered furniture together with some tables and cabinets to give you some ideas for designing your own contemporary dollhouse living room.
All of the cabinets and tables shown here are in a walnut finish. While shopping, you may have noticed that some walnut finishes can be quite dark, some browner, some are more golden.

Lee's Line furniture is designed in a contemporary style, and we've included their dining room buffet in some of these pictures because it, like some other dining room pieces, can also serve as a great piece of living room furniture.

Lee's Line new off white Cara sofa and chair with the new honey oak Cara tables.

The off white Cara sofa sports a designer look with paisley pillows, also from Lee's Line.

Here's that Lee's Line classic Denim Blue sofa, with the addition of those pretty paisley pillows. By the way, Lee's Line is retiring the Blue Denim chair and sofa.

Add the paisley pillows for a bit of flair.

The red and white Ashley sofa with the honey oak tables. For a while Lee's Line was producing a matching checked ottoman. The ottoman has been retired, but we still have a few in stock. Ottomans add a nice homey realistic look to miniature interiors.

Mahogany Miniature Bedroom Furniture

Unfortunately some of the miniature furniture previously shown here is no longer available, which is why we've deleted or edited some of the pictures.

Mahogany furniture can range from fairly dark to a reddish tone.
If you want your furniture to match in color exactly, you should buy a set, that's the only way you can be sure that the colors will be the same. Below are a dresser and a vanity. As you can see, they are identical in style and should be identical in color, but obviously they're not. One is more like a dark, ripe Bing cherry. ---------------Sorry, AN110 has been discontinued by the manufacturer.

The following pictures show how various pieces work together.
A grouping like the one below gives a sort of Victorian country cottage feel, like staying at Grandma's.

An important point to remember, if you're doing a period room, is that in real life the furniture didn't match. Furniture suites were something that didn't start to catch on til the late 1800's, and many people thought they were in poor taste anyway.

When arranging furniture, if you find you've got a piece that looks just a little too light in color compared to the rest of your furniture, place it back towards the shadowier part of the room. I've had pieces that I thought were too light or too red, but when I placed them in the right spot, they looked perfect. The armoire below can look light or dark depending on where it's placed.

The nightstand is a fairly recent furniture invention. In Victorian days they didn't exist. If you wanted to place a candle handy by your bed, you'd set it on a chair, and if an invalid needed a table for water, medicines or reading material, a table would be brought over and placed by the bed. Some nurses had to provide their own bedside tables for patients.
